Burleigh House and gates, Church Street

Burleigh House was built around 1600 and was demolished in 1913; the Rialto Cinema was later built on the site. Traces of an earlier house have been found. The gates were sold for £90 to a London dealer and a Tudor overmantle for £12-10-0. The house was last tenanted by Joseph Withers of the London Stock Exchange. - History of Enfield, vol.2, p.86.
