Celebrate Enfield’s heritage in 2012
You are most welcome to attend any of these events;
membership of The Enfield Society is not necessary for
attendance and all are free, though you may need to otain a
ticket as places are limited.

Sunday 27th May

A heritage walk round Winchmore Hill, led by
Peter Hodge.
Starts at 2pm, and will include entry into the
Friends’ Meeting House and St Paul’s Church,
finishing about 4pm at Grovelands Park where refreshments
are available. Apply for tickets as

Tuesday 10th July

An invitation to explore Enfield Town’s
non-conformist churches.
To commemorate the 350th anniversary of the “Great
Ejection” of 1662, Christ Church, Trinity, the
Baptist and the Evangelical Free Churches will all be open
from 10.30am to 12.30pm, with either a guided tour or
facilties for a self-guided tour and other historical
information. Refreshments will be available. Other churches
in the Borough may also be open and details of these will
be on the leaflet described below.
No tickets are required but if you would like further
information on the churches open, map, etc., then please
write to Emma Halstead at the address
below, asking for the non-conformist churches leaflet.

Tuesday 10th July

A heritage walk around Enfield Town.
Starts at 7pm, visiting St Andrew’s church and the Tudor room. This walk is now fully booked - no more tickets are available.

Tuesday 7th August

A walk linking Broomfield Park to Enfield Town,
via the New River, with historical explanations from Roger Gibbs. Starts at 11am from Palmers Green railway station (train from Enfield Chase at 10.50 gets to Palmers Green at 10.58). full length is about 7 miles but there are options for earlier finishes if desired. Bring own lunch (recommended), though there will be refreshment stops available. Tickets are not required for this event – just turn up on the day.

Saturday 18th August

A walk around Edmonton,
including possible entry to Lamb’s cottage, viewing the outside of the Charity School and All Saints Church, the Hyde estate and site of the 1938 plane crash. Leader Graham Dalling, starts at 10am. This walk is now fully booked - no more tickets are available.

The Royal Small Arms Factory
An introductory talk followed by a visit to the factory, with Ray Tuthill. Starts at 2pm. Tickets are required. This event is now fully booked – no more tickets are available.

The story of Forty Hall,
its history and architecture, restoration and archaeology. An evening event to celebrate the reopening of Forty Hall, at the Banqueting Suite, Forty Hall. Please see page 7 of TES News no.186, Summer 2012, to book your place.
